Jeff Berkley / The Paleoverb Project

Producer / musician Jeff Berkley is working on an ambitious new happening, The Paleoverb Project, but San Diego’s music fans will have to leave the state to experience it. Berkley will be producing and recording artists at the Sternberg Museum in Hays, Kansas, capturing music in one of the most unique venues in the world.

“Imagine soaring melodies and harmonies blooming in a space unlike any other,” said Berkley. “In a room designed to feel like you’re underwater, with reverberation so stunning it turns sound into an experience. This hidden gem lies in the Sternberg Museum, a place where prehistoric history meets modern creativity.”

Organizing Across State Lines

Is it difficult to organize something like this from another state?

“I think it’s a challenge to organize something like this anywhere,” Berkley said good-naturedly. “Adding in the travel and lodging stuff is a bit of a challenge, but nothing we aren’t used to.”

Plans include tour dates to and from the museum.

Discovering the Sternberg Museum

Berkley came across the museum while on tour.

“After years of traveling across the country, I discovered the Sternberg Museum and its unique, cave-like room with rounded walls and natural acoustics that took my breath away,” Berkley said. “I knew immediately I had to share this with the world.”

To that end, he is organizing a special music recording session featuring three acts: Stucky Leigh, Please Ask for Paul, and Veronica May.

“These artists are known for their soaring melodies and intricate harmonies, and I can’t think of a better place to capture their music than this magical space.”

The Three-Day Recording Experience

Over the course of The Paleoverb Project’s three days and three nights, each act will record live performances in the museum.

“Local students and professors from Hays are joining us to help capture the magic on audio and video, creating professional-grade recordings and visual content for these artists to share with the world,” Berkley said.

“This project is about more than music—it’s about community, creativity, and showing what’s possible when we combine artistry with accessible technology. The recordings will not only amplify these artists’ careers but also shine a light on Hays and the Sternberg Museum as a destination for creative collaboration.”
