Top 5 Concerts / Spotlight Concerts

February 12 – Judy Collins / The Magnolia, El Cajon

Folk music icon Judy Collins brings her “Holidays and Hits Show” to town, with a set list that includes her classic Joni Mitchell cover, “Both Sides Now,” her hit version of Sondheim’s “Send In The Clowns” and evergreen, “Amazing Grace,” plus a handful of songs from her peers: The Beatles and Bob Dylan. Don’t pass up this chance to see a music legend. Her influence on pop culture includes being the inspiration for Crosby, Stills and Nash’s immortal song, “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.”

February 14 & 15 – Mark Langford’s Birthday Celebration / Rock and Roll San Diego, Point Loma

Guitarist Mark Langford has been an integral part of San Diego’s music community for the past four decades. Not only has he been a member of such top bands as 1980s metal combo, Bible Black, he is also a highly respected classical / flamenco guitarist. Notably, he is also the man behind Rock and Roll San Diego, the area’s top rehearsal space / music center, working with hundreds of artists over the years. This year the venue is throwing Langford a two-day birthday event in the venue’s Hendrix Hall. The talent lineup wasn’t set at press time, but you can expect plenty of surprises, a late-night jam session and lots of special guests.

February 16 – Steve Poltz / The Music Box, Little Italy

To call Steve Poltz a singer-songwriter is quite an understatement. The best combination of gifted and prolific, Poltz long ago proved he could turn out gems with ease, witness “You Were Meant For Me.” But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Poltz’s music. There are dozens if not more tunes in his repertoire just as good, tunes full of humor, tunes full of sentiment. His latest album, Stardust and Satellites, is an excellent addition to Poltz’s canon, but he and his music are best experienced live, where his stories and impromptu stage happenings add to the magic.

February 18 – Cy Curnin / The Belly Up Tavern, Solana Beach

A rare solo outing for the Fixx frontman, best known for a string of 1980s-era classics such as “One Thing Leads To Another,” “Red Skies,” “Stand or Fall,” and “Secret Separation.” Curnin has released several works, most recently 2021’s Superseded EP, much of which is sure to feature in Curnin’s set list, but longtime fans will be happy to hear that previous solo outings have included several of his main group’s hits. Curnin continues to be in great voice.

February 22 – Mrs. Henry / Booze Brothers, Vista

Any night out with Mrs. Henry is going to get you great, heavy, rock and roll, but this is an extra special show. The band will be celebrating the release of their rock opera, Keep On Rising. The limited-edition boxset, 3-LP vinyl record collection (also a 2-disc gatefold CD), features the artwork of legendary poster artist Alan Forbes.
