December 2024 Events Guide

December 7 – Cat 22 with Peymaar / Black Cat Bar, City Heights

A new trio making a splash, led by guitarist Scott Samuels, with bassist Donna Daly and drummer Mel Hintz. Samuels is perhaps best known for his other two bands, tributes Oasiz and Solitary Diamonds (Neil Diamond), but here the emphasis will be on his and Daly’s originals. The band is currently recording their debut EP for early 2025 release.

December 8 – SONO Fest and Chili Cook Off / Thorn St. & 32nd St., South Park

A free family-friendly fundraising street festival for McKinley Elementary School with local chili, arts & crafts, and live music on two stages. From 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. there’s a great lineup that includes The Creepy Creeps, Scary Pierre, The Amandas, Tamar Berk, Julia Sage & Bad Hombres, Night Carrots, and more.

December 15 – San Diego Troubadour Xmas Party / Tio Leo’s, Bay Park

A fundraiser for one of the area’s most important publications, The San Diego Troubadour. Being tireless champions of the local music community, the event naturally features some of the area’s top talent, including The Sleepwalkers, The King-Taylor Project, Michelle Lundeen, Chloe Lou & the Liddells, Sue Palmer, and Sometimes Julie.

December 20 – Samantha Fish / The Sound, Del Mar

If you are a fan of modern guitar-led blues/rock, then this is a dream bill, with Samantha Fish joined by Cedric Burnside and Jon Spencer for this show. Fish’s catalog is full of great songs such as “Bulletproof” and “Better Be Lonely,” and her latest album (with Jesse Dayton), Death Wish Blues, is a must for fans, but live is where the real magic is. Fish is the real deal.

December 21 – Charlie Brown Jingles & Jazz / The Baker-Baum Concert Hall, La Jolla

For music fans of a certain age, the phrase “Christmas music” is synonymous with the wonderful songs that pianist Vince Guaraldi penned and arranged for the 1965 television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. This all-star concert captures the spirit of the original music, with wonderful performances from vocalist Allison Adams Tucker, guitarist Peter Sprague, bassist MacKenzie Leighton, saxophonist Tripp Sprague, flautist Beth Ross Buckley, pianist Danny Green, and drummer Duncan Moore.
