- Daring Greatly heads out on tour this month for a few dates, opening up on October 2 in Providence, RI, and wrapping up on October 7, in Wayland, MA. The band next performs at Navajo Live on October 11 and at Ocean Beach Oktoberfest on October 12.
- 90’s era indie punk band Kill Holiday has their earliest recordings collected on a new album, Seasonal, out via Indecision Records. Acompletists Dream, the 11-tracks include their first EP, MonitorDependency (1995), both tunes from their split single with Dempsey, and a stray song from the Guilt by Association compilation, plus a batch of demos. It’s a limited edition, one-time pressing of 250 copies on Burgundy colored vinyl.
- Long-running dance band, Liquid Blue celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Supernova, by releasing a new video for the title track. Since that first disc, Liquid Blue has released 15 additional albums and can claim to be the most traveled band in the world, with performances in more than 800 cities, spanning 125 countries on seven continents. Liquid Blue has a Guinness World Record for “hit song sung in the most languages,” scoring the honor for their single, “Earth Passport,” (#3 / 2010 Billboard Hot Dance Singles).
- Los Angeles-based band, The Eddies, has recorded backing for three songs originally recorded by Manual Scan / The Shambles. Vocals will be by a different artist on each track. The Eddies themselves will release a version of “Confidence and Love,” while Chicago based singer Audrey Fair will perform the song, “Blindspot” and Orange County’s Sandy Lee and the Bee will record an updated version of “Anymore.” The sessions have been produced by Fernando Perdomo. On August 18, an early version of “Anymore” with the Eddies’ guide vocals, debuted on Rodney Bingenheimer’s Underground Garage program, episode 371.
Award-winning bluegrass combo, MohaviSoul, releases their second album of the year, Encore, this month. At the same time, their earlier self-titled album, issued in April, will also get a vinyl edition.
- Saxophonist Daniel Nielsen has a new Friday night residency at Nature Forward, performing from 6 – 9 p.m.
- Country / progressive bluegrass trio, Nickel Creek’s platinum-selling self-titled third album, from 2000, is being reissued by VMP as a two-disc, orange vinyl set, complete with obi-strip. The album included two hit country singles, both circa 2001; “When You Come Back Down” (#48) and “The Lighthouse’s Tale” (#49).
- Hard rockers P.O.D. play a string of festivals in October including Aftershock (Oct. 12 / Sacramento), Knotfest 2024 (Oct. 19-20 / Sao Paolo, Brazil), Tork ‘n’ Roll (Curitiba, Brazil), Sacadura 154 (Oct. 23 / Rio De Janero, Brazil) and Nu Metal Revolution (Oct. 25-26 / Mexico City, Mexico). Looking ahead, P.O.D. will also be part of Shiprocked 2025, sailing from Miami January 19–25.
- Platinum-selling singer Gary Puckett & The Union Gap will tour Australia February 5 – 28, 2025.
Switchfoot has released a new album, The Beautiful Letdown (Live In Los Angeles), with a single on cream-colored vinyl, “Meant To Live / “Dare You To Move,” both also recorded live in Los Angeles, also available.
- Former Ratt singer Stephen Pearcy will mark the 40th Anniversary of his former band’s breakout album, Out of the Cellar, with a tour dubbed, Back to the Cellar, playing that album’s songs and other hits. Dates include a return to the Whiskey A Go-Go on December 30. Pearcy will also perform on the Monsters of Rock Cruise.
- A new Queen deluxe box set for their 1973 debut album, Queen I, is due out on October 25. It includes lots of unreleased tracks, including a pair of tunes, “Hangman” and “Doing All Right,” recorded live in San Diego on March 13, 1976, at the San Diego Sports Arena.
- Guitarist Deven Berryhill of The Tourmaliners sat in with Los Straightjackets at the latter’s Soda Bar gig on September 6, playing guitar on surf classics “Misirlou” and “Wipeout.” Berryhill will be touring Australia and New Zealand with 1960’s surf music legends, The Surfaris, in March 2025.
