Where is Dani Bell? I’ll tell you where, she is touring with and a member of Portugal. The Man, the American rock band from Wasilla, Alaska that formed in 2004 and now based in Portland, Oregon. Many people in San Diego know Dani from her musical endeavor’s, Dani Bell and the Tarantist, Boychick and as a member of Baby Bushka, the Kate Bush tribute band.
Portugal. The Man currently consists of founding member John Baldwin Gourley and Zoe Manville, with the couple joined by a group of touring musicians that includes our very own Dani Bell. Taken from Wikipedia: “Dani Bell – bass, backing vocals (2025–present).” The bands tenth studio album, SHISH, was released in November and this marks Portugal. The Man’s first album in two years, since 2023’s Chris Black Changed My Life. SHISH features 10 tracks, including “Tanana” and “Mush,” both of which comprise the band’s latest single, and were co-written by Dani Bell.
We caught up with Dani recently, so this is from Dani herself: “I’m currently on a US tour with Portugal. the man to promote our new album “Shish.” We’re a few weeks in with about a week or two to go, and I’ve been enjoying every minute of it. The crowds have been so fun, the band and crew is all so sweet and fun to be around. Last night we had Weird Al and Jorma Taccone dressed as Pee Wee Herman join us in Brooklyn, which was a dream I never knew I had”.
Way to go Dani, we’re watching with San Diego pride!
