Adams Avenue Unplugged – Free Music Walkabout April 26

One of San Diego’s coolest happenings, Adams Avenue Unplugged returns to San Diego on Saturday April 26 for an incredible day of music. Different than a typical street fair, Adams Avenue Unplugged is a walkabout, featuring 80 performances inside restaurants, bars, and coffee houses along a two-mile stretch of Adams Avenue from University Heights on the West, through Normal Heights, and into parts of Kensington to the East. The event is free, with many of the locations being family friendly, though bars are, as always, 21 and up.

Highlights this time out are many, including an appearance by legendary British singer Terry Reid. A noted songwriter covered by the likes of Cheap Trick, The Hollies and Marianne Faithful, Reid is blessed with an incredible voice, as heard on a string of classic albums to his credit released since 1968, most recently 2016’s The Other Side of the River. He’s also a pivotal figure in music history, feted by legends such as Aretha Franklin and a key to the beginnings of Led Zeppelin, to name just two bright spots in an amazing career.

Also on the days “do not miss” list is an appearance from troubadour Gregory Page, with his special Songs of Leon Redbone show, and an acoustic duo performance from Jerry Raney and Joey Harris of The Beat Farmers. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Other gems in the day’s lineup include Tamar Berk, Dolly’s Revenge, Lady Dottie & The Diamonds, Rookie Card, Gayle Skidmore, Jonny Tarr and Split Rail Fence, for starters.

“Events like Adams Ave Unplugged are great for bringing artists together, with each other, but also with the whole community,” said Skidmore. “After living for a long time in a place where I felt pretty disconnected, I really understand how much events like this can mean. If you care about art, creativity, and the way they bring folks together, this kind of thing is so important. Music and art say things we sometimes can’t with just words, and right now, that kind of expression and community really matter.”

Ashley Norton of Dolly’s Revenge concurs. “Adams Avenue Unplugged is one of the most impressive music discovery festivals in San Diego,” she said. “I love that people flood the streets and will trust to really listen to a performer they’ve never heard before simply because the festival has a reputation for bringing in great music. What a rare and beautiful thing!”
