The DIY Metal Machine!

Steven Harris has embraced the DIY movement by forming his own entertainment company called Hammerstrike Entertainment. This San Diego based company produces hard rock/metal shows across SoCal. Like many local musicians, Steven took matters into his own hands when it came to booking shows.

“I’m the sole owner and proprietor of Hammerstrike Entertainment which came about because of a need I was continually facing when I was playing with a now disbanded act called Primortus,” Harris said. “I joke that being the bass player for the band I was given all of the duties no one else wanted! And that was band management and show procurement, but in reality it was a blessing in disguise. It allowed me to really utilize my social and planning skills to put together events, shows and now festivals with my ever increasing network of musicians, promoters and agencies located in San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix and beyond.”

Coma Phase

His first event was the first annual Raze & Haze fest in August of 2024 and HAMMERFEST in September of the same year. He has since continued to produce shows including the upcoming show on March 2 at the Til-Two Club featuring the band Coma Phase. Also on the bill are metal band Midjara, Emo/Pop Rock band Home by 5, and the self proclaimed “Not quite metalcore, not quite alt rock” Redwood Vine. Coma Phase is from Sacramento and currently on their Nocturnal Ambitions Presents: Coma Phase tour. Harris says the band has a hard rock to almost metalcore-esque sound and has been around since 2021.

Harris is now showing San Diego that the DIY movement is the way to go, and shows no signs of slowing down. And its serving him well by fulfilling a dream that he has had for awhile. “I started Hammerstrike Entertainment in hopes of bringing the more often overlooked rock and metal talent we have here in San Diego to a more mainstream spotlight as well as to strengthen the metal communities by creating memorable events,” Harris added. “I do this out of love and passion for music and my hopes are to one day start up a major and long lasting music festival! Ultimately I started up to have the power to create a space where great memories can be made by providing a space and time where friends, families and the greater community in general can come together and be untied through the power of music. It may sound corny I know, but that’s how I feel!”
