Maybe you’ve heard about Ramona’s thriving music scene…or maybe you only know it as a pass through town. Either way, we’re here to enlighten you on the amazing musical events happening in R-town! Welcome to the new Ramona Roundup.
My name is Ashley E. Norton, co-founder of the Ramona Music Alliance. Jon Hasz asked me to partner up with him on this project in 2022 and we’ve had an incredible response. We now have music up here seven days a week, our own Ramona Radio, Barn Dances, Festivals, weekly themed jams, open mics, monthly music series, karaoke, brunch shows, networking meetups and coffee dates, compilation albums, and more!
It’s pretty incredible what a bunch of like-minded musicians can accomplish when we put our heads together. We even temporarily became politicians and gave speeches in front of the San Diego Board of Supervisors to help allow live music in our boutique wineries. And can you believe they awarded Jon and I the “Citizen Of The Year” trophy for bringing the most business to our town? WITH MUSIC.
My monthly Songbirds series is also going strong in our fifth season! We’ve had some crazy hurdles to jump over and Teri Kerns, owner of Ramona Ranch Winery, and I just keep jumping. The audiences and performers are amazing here and we want you to be part of our growing scene. Not just to perform, we want you to come listen! The key to our success is artists supporting artists. When we do that, people pay attention…the audience grows. You will often find many of the Ramona musicians out at shows. We’ll be there cheering each other on and likely jumping on the stage for collaborations.
You might know that we just recently lost our founder, my partner and best friend of the Farm Truck Barn Dance, Craig Fischer. This loss has been indescribably painful for anyone that knew him. He had a way of connecting people. When he wasn’t performing, you would always find him at a show somewhere, bellied up to the bar with a hazy IPA or a tequila and soda. And if you were one of the lucky ones to be there with him, he would have introduced you to the entire room. I take a great responsibility of passing Craig’s legacy on. Not just by carrying on his music, but also by continuing the human musical connection. You know what they say about rising tides. All aboard.
