October’s concert schedule is so packed we’ve decided to spotlight some more highlights!
October 9 Parker Barrow / Humphrey’s Backstage Live, Shelter Island
Nashville based, Blues infused, Southern rock ‘n’ roll, led by the powerhouse vocalist / guitarist Megan Kane, Parker Barrow’s most recent single, “Make It,” is like a long-lost classic rock favorite, complete with Zep like breaks and adrenaline-charged chorus. The band definitely rocks and most importantly, knows their way around a song hook.
October 11 Morricone Youth / Panama 66 Copley Auditorium, Balboa Park
All kinds of awesome. Alfred Hitchcock’s 1927 British silent film classic, The Lodger, with original live re-score performed by Morricone Youth. Perfect for film buffs, fans of instrumentals, or anyone who appreciates adventurous sounds.
October 11 Los Straightjackets / The Casbah, Little Italy
Surf’s up at The Casbah for a terrific double bill featuring legendary masked combo, Los Straightjackets and San Diego’s own, The Tourmaliners. Holy crossover, Batman! Los Straightjackets guitarist Eddie Angel recently appeared on The Tourmaliners song and video, “Swanky.”
October 12 Kristina Bennett / Reunify Yoga, Ocean Beach
Most musical events amp you up, but this special event goes in the opposite direction with a relaxing candlelight restorative, Reiki, and sound healing session helmed by Pacific Records recording artist Kristina Bennett and Josie Duraso.
October 24 You Can Call Me Sugar / The Casbah, Little Italy
A great bill topped by Celeste Spina’s (ex-Little Hurricane) new project, You Can Call Me Sugar, who’s set is sure to include new single, “Matrianarchy,” produced by Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil. Jesika von Rabbit and Go Scarlet open.
October 26 11th Annual Warrior Foundation Freedom Station Music Festival / Humphrey’s Backstage Live, Shelter Island
A daytime (2 – 7 p.m.) fundraiser for the Warrior Foundation, assisting, honoring and supporting military men and women, with music from Band of Gringos, Blame Betty, Zavala Sol and Mercedes Moore.
October 29 The Cult / The Sound, Del Mar
The band’s latest album, Under the Midnight Sun, is a welcome addition to their canon, but the night’s biggest cheers will be for their 1980’s era classics, such as “She Sells Sanctuary” and “Love Removal Machine.” Fun fact: The Cult recorded a live session for 91X in 2016 at Pacific Beach recording studio, Pacific Beat, produced by Alan Sanderson.
October 31 Phantom of the Opera Dinner Show / Divo Diva, Hillcrest
Possibly this year’s most unique Halloween offering. Join singers (and venue owners) Rosario Monetti and Victoria Robertson for a special themed night of opera.
October 31 Django’s Jazz Caravan / Escondido Performing Arts Center, Escondido
All-star matinee and evening shows, on Halloween, featuring gypsy jazz, blues and tin pan alley tunes from Gunhild Carling, Pino Noir, Nathan & Jessie, Gregory Page and Whitney Shay. Another top notch Six String Society Production.
