If you’re looking for a Taco Tuesday that hits differently, Kalaveras Mexican Food in Escondido is the spot. With its Día de los Muertos-themed decor, killer taco deals, and incredible flavors, this place is a must-visit.
A Vibe Like No Other
Walking into Kalaveras feels like stepping into a neon-lit Day of the Dead celebration. Black walls covered in vibrant skulls and floral artwork set the mood for a lively and authentic Mexican dining experience.

$1.49 Street Tacos That Deliver
Every Tuesday, Kalaveras serves up $1.49 street tacos on soft corn tortillas, and trust me—these are the real deal. We had the carne asada and chicken, both delicious, but the barbacoa and chicharrón absolutely stole the show.
The barbacoa was rich and juicy, slow-cooked to perfection. But the chicharrón taco? Unreal. Tender melt-in-your-mouth, it was unlike any other taco we’ve had. Even now, on a Tuesday, I’m craving another bite.

Salsa Bar & Refreshing Drinks
Kalaveras has a well-stocked salsa bar with a variety of salsas, cilantro, onions, and pickled vegetables to customize your tacos. We paired our meal with fresh, self-serve watermelon juice, and of course, Mexican Coke—because nothing washes down tacos better than the crisp, real-sugar fizz of a glass-bottled Coke.

Why You Need to Go
Beyond the food and vibe, the staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. If you love authentic street tacos, a cool aesthetic, and the perfect drink pairing, Kalaveras is the place to be on Tuesdays. And whatever you do, don’t skip the chicharrón tacos—they’ll haunt your cravings all week.
